Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is excellent for high-traffic and wet areas — 100% waterproof and extremely durable in freeze-thaw climates. Hardwood is beautiful but requires humidity control; Northern Idaho homes can swing 20–30% RH seasonally, which causes hardwood to move significantly.
Most manufacturers specify 5–7 days of on-site acclimation at the home’s normal humidity and temperature. We don’t skip this step. Installing un-acclimated hardwood is one of the most common causes of flooring failures.
Sometimes — if the subfloor is solid and the existing tile is fully adhered. Often it’s better to demo and start fresh, which lets us address any subfloor issues underneath. We evaluate before recommending.
Luxury vinyl plank looks like wood but is 100% waterproof and extremely durable. Excellent for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, and laundry rooms where hardwood would be problematic. Quality varies by brand — we specify products we’ve seen perform in the field.
We evaluate the subfloor as the first step on every flooring job. Soft spots, squeaks, and humps need to be addressed first. Skipping subfloor prep is why a lot of flooring fails within a few years.
